Teaching philosophy
The MBA teaching
philosophy can be summarised as interactive, case based, application
focused, integrative, IT supported, innovative and with a distinct focus
on the development of skills and knowledge for use 'as a manager'.
Integral to the MBA design are certain graduate qualities and desired learning outcomes, all of which are reflected in the teaching philosophy.
It is expected that all students in the program, as mature postgraduate students with relevant workplace experience, will:
- be committed to personal development and professional practice
- be effective problem solvers, applying logical, critical and creative thinking
- be able to work both autonomously and collaboratively
- be committed to ethical action and social responsibility
- communicate effectively
- demonstrate international perspectives
- be able to find examples from and make reference to personal workplace experience and current management practice
The program is therefore delivered in such a way that students will have undertaken essential pre-reading of their study guides, readings and, where appropriate, any prescribed text books. Class sessions thus become the primary vehicle to add layers of sophisticated management philosophy and thinking. There is very little traditional lecture-style teaching. Far greater emphasis is placed on creating a stimulating, interactive and dynamic classroom environment where students share experiences and develop their own management and leaderships styles and skills.
