DUCIER research
The aim is to make University of South Australia a pre-eminent site for Indigenous Research nationally. DUCIER Research coordinates all Indigenous research in the University and acts as a point of contact in establishing and facilitating research with external organisations. To achieve this appropriate organisational structures and processes have been implemented to : create an innovate research culture identifying research opportunities through the management and dissemination of relevant information to specific research interest groups; foster and develop Indigenous researchers (from existing staff, from within the Indigenous student population and from organisations external to the University); develop research linkages with external organisations; create an academic environment for researchers and students that is nurturing and supportive; integrate web-base technology to assist the development of Indigenous research communities; teach and transfer research knowledge and skills to Indigenous postgraduate students.
DUCIER Research will :
- Respond to research needs as identified and expressed by members of Indigenous communities.
- Engage in consultancies with a range of industry partners (e.g. ATSIS, ALRM, DHS, DAARE and other local government agencies.
- Provide a context within which staff of The Unaipon School can undertake joint projects which utilise the wide range of expertise within the School.
- Develop cooperative research relationships between The Unaipon School and the David Unaipon College of Indigenous Education and Research.
- Foster research links with other researchers within other schools and division of the University of South Australia, and with external agencies.
- Develop research partnerships with Indigenous communities and organisations.
- Provide a professional development context for increasing participation by Indigenous and other staff in research activities.
- Increase the research profile of The Unaipon School through becoming increasingly competitive in grant applications and through an improved publishing profile.
- Develop research policies and strategies which reflect ‘best practice’ in Indigenous research.
