Living in Adelaide

With a population of around one million, Adelaide is the capital of South Australia. A cosmopolitan and friendly city known for its rich cultural and educational life, it has leafy parklands, busy shopping malls and markets.

Adelaide has a Mediterranean climate and offers numerous recreational opportunities with clean sandy beaches, the scenic Adelaide Hills and national parks, all within a short drive from the city.

Accommodation for students is available in university residential colleges. The cost of rented accomodation is the lowest of the Australian mainland capital cities (for example approximately 35% less than in Sydney) and accommodation can be found which is conveniently located close to the universities.

.   Why study in South Australia?

The driest State in the world’s driest inhabited continent, South Australia is a world leader in innovative water management. It is at the forefront in the development of unconventional sources of water, re-use of water, advanced water treatment technologies, novel and efficient systems design and analysis methods, and pioneering methods for groundwater evaluation. Underpinning these advances is the international leadership of the Joint Universities’ Masters Program (JUMP) academic staff in a wide spectrum of scientific and engineering areas.

Students may work with an inter-disciplinary team of researchers in such fields as hydrogeology, aquatic chemistry and microbiology, urban hydrology, and water systems engineering. This ensures students the best available expertise.

South Australia is the home base of several water agencies with an international reputation in water quality and treatment, groundwater, water distribution, and stormwater management.

Graduate

Currently employed as a Hydrologist, Department of Natural Resources, Bundaberg, Queensland.

"The course has helped me transfer my knowledge as a petroleum geologist into the water industry. I liked the practical nature of the course and I was particularly impressed with having an expert in each field teaching us, even down to individual parts of each subject. The location of the course was also a plus as I gained access to expertise in advanced water management technology in South Australia."
