Eligibility
Staff who become pregnant or adopt a child under five years and have been employed by UniSA prior to the expected date of birth or adoption are eligible for paid adoption/maternity leave. where staff have been employed for less than 12 months continuous service prior to the expected date of birth/adoption, leave is paid on a pro rata basis.
Staff are also entitled to unpaid maternity/adoption leave up to a period of 52 weeks (this is inclusive of any period of paid leave taken).
Paid and/or unpaid maternity/adoption leave is available to:
- full-time and part-time continuing staff members
- fixed-term staff members who have a current contract in place
- casual staff deemed eligible according to the Parental Leave Procedure.
The intended purpose of maternity or adoption leave is to take time off to care for your child.
Any period of paid or unpaid maternity/adoption leave is deemed not to have broken your continuity of service.
Staff are also entitled to one pre-natal leave day per month for the final six months of pregnancy for relevant appointments prior to leave.
