Employment types
Employment types vary, therefore managers and employees should refer
to the applicable industrial
instrument. However, generally the employment types recognised at
the University of South Australia are:
- Continuing: employment for the ordinary hours of work per week
(maybe performed on a part-time fraction) with no fixed end date.
All employment other than fixed-term and casual employment is seen
as continuing employment.
- Fixed-term contract: employment for a specified period, the
applicable industrial instrument specifies the conditions in which a
fixed term contract may be offered.
- Casual: a person engaged by the hour and paid on an hourly
basis, please refer to the applicable industrial instrument for the
principles of casual employment.
