1940s Popular undergraduate programs in Physiotherapy and Podiatry commence at the University’s antecedent institutions. 

1945 Diagnostic radiography education in SA commenced with a two year part-time Certificate course at the South Australian School of Mines and Industries (subsequently the South Australian Institute of Technology). A Certificate course in Radiotherapy commenced in 1956 and involved completion of the diagnostic course plus a further part-time year devoted to radiotherapy.

1970 The School of Physiotherapy moved from Adelaide University to the South Australian Institute of Technology (SAIT).

1971 The School of Occupational Therapy was established at the SAIT. The School ran only one undergraduate program (in Occupational Therapy) at that time, with an initial intake of 15 students.

1991 The University of South Australia Act establishes a university with a mission to preserve, extend and disseminate knowledge through teaching, research, scholarship and consultancy, and to provide educational programs that will enhance the diverse cultural life of the wider community. 

1997 The current Bachelor of Medical Radiation, with its fully integrated context directed learning curriculum, commenced.

1998 Divisional structure adopted to form the Division of Business and Enterprise; the Division of Education, Arts and Social Sciences; the Division of Health Sciences; and the Division of Information Technology, Engineering and the Environment.

1999 The Medical Radiation team was presented with the prestigious Australian Award for Excellence in University Teaching in the Biological Sciences, Health and Related Studies category. The team received this award in response to their work in integrating a problem-based learning curriculum into the Medical Radiation undergraduate program.

2002 Dr Sara Jones, the first Australian woman to complete a PhD in podiatry, graduates from UniSA.

2003 The School of Health Sciences formed on 1 January 2003 through the amalgamation of the Schools of Medical Radiation, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy/Podiatry, and Physical Education, Exercise and Sport Studies.

The Bachelor of Medical Radiation (Diagnostic Radiography and Radiation Therapy options) was reaccredited by the Australian Institute of Radiography (AIR) in 2003 for an additional five years.
