Post a message to a discussion group

When posting a message to a discussion, you can either post a new message or reply to an existing one.

New message

To post a new message:

Reply to message

To reply to a message:

  1. Click the underlined title of the message you want to reply to, in the Topic column.
    The message will open in the message frame on the right of the discussion window.
  2. Click the Reply link at the top of the message, as indicated by the arrow in the image below.

A new message form will open in the contents frame, as shown below.

  1. Type a suitable title in the Topic text box.
    OR
    Leave the topic title unchanged if you are replying to a message in an existing discussion thread.
  2. Type your message in the Message text box.
  3. Click the Post Item button.

The contents frame will refresh to show the title of your message, your name, the date and time it was posted.

 

Attach a file

It may be possible to attach a file to your message (if the Course Coordinator selected this option at the time the discussion group was created). File formats that can be attached include:

To attach a file:

  1. Click the Browse button to locate and select the file.
  2. Check that the file type is correct. If not, select the correct type from the drop down list or click the Guess button if you are unsure.
  3. Type a suitable title in the Title text box.
  4. Click the Post item button to post your message with the file attachment.

You may see a warning message, as shown below, prompting you to confirm that the file type selected is correct.

You will see a second message, as shown below, warning you that large files may take some time to upload.
