Images
Images must be created with the following specifications. This will create uniformity throughout Software Help resources and ensure that Web accessibility guidelines are met.
Instructional intent
Images are used to focus attention on an instructional process. Careful consideration must be given to the portion of the screen that is selected for an image to ensure that the focus of the image will enhance and reinforce the instruction. In the following example, the entire screen was not used for the image, but rather, a portion of it that was relevant to the process being described in the instruction.

Image size
600 x 600 pixels
Images must not exceed 600 x 600 pixels. At this size, the complete image can be viewed without vertical or horizontal scrolling with any screen resolution .
File size
25 KB
To comply with accessibility guidelines, an image must not exceed 25 KB. This will ensure that the image loads rapidly, even over a dial-up modem. Consideration must be given to the number of images on a webpage as this will cumulatively affect download time.
Alternative text
Image must have meaningful alternative text that supports the instructional intent. Please note the insertion of alternative text is mandatory for accessibility compliance
Borders
A border is applied to all images automatically. Apply the noborder style to images that do not require a border:
- Double-click the image to open the Picture Properties window.
- Select the Style... button to open the Modify Style window.
- Type 'noborder' into the Class drop down box.
- Select OK to close the Modify Style window.
- Select OK to close the Picture Properties window.
Graphics
Only standard Software Help graphic elements should be added to screen captures.
