Basic Centra functions

Your Centra event leader will provide instruction on how to operate the interface interface during the event. However, to get you started, here are some of the basic functions that you will be required to perform in every Centra event that you participate in.

The following image shows the complete Centra interface, which is comprised of three main frames:

  1. the top frame (contains the audio panel and tool bar)
  2. the left frame (contains the video panel, presenters panel, participants panel and agenda panel), and
  3. the content frame.

The top frame provides options to help you communicate with the presenter and other participants during the event. The top frame contains the audio panel and tool bar:

Audio panel

The audio panel contains the following icons:

  1. Push to talk
    Click the icon and continue to hold down the left mouse button while speaking, or
    Press the Ctrl key on your keyboard (and continue to hold down the key) while speaking.
  2. Lock to talk
    Click this icon if you are going to speak for a long time and do not wish to hold down the Ctrl key (remember to unlock the microphone by clicking this icon again when you are finished speaking).
  3. Speaker volume
    Move the slider to the right to increase the volume.
  4. Microphone volume
    Move the slider to the right to increase the volume.

Tool bar

The tool bar contains the following icons:

  1. Raise your hand
    Click this icon to indicate that you'd like to speak. The presenter may give you the microphone and allow you to speak (hold down the Ctrl key to speak).
  2. Say yes
    Click this icon to indicate a yes answer to any question asked by the presenter.
  3. Say no
    Click this icon to indicate a no answer to any question asked by the presenter.
  4. Indicate laughter (smiley face)
    Click this icon to indicate laughter/amusement.
  5. Indicate applause (clapping hands)
    Click this icon to indicate applause.
  6. Text chat (keyboard and speech bubble)
    Click this icon to open the text chat window.
  7. Provide feedback
    Click this icon to provide feedback to the presenter about his/her delivery of the presentation.
  8. Step out
    C
    lick this icon to indicate that you have temporarily left the event.


Left frame

The left frame provides options to help you communicate with the presenter and other participants during the event. The left frame contains the video panel (not shown), presenters panel, participants panel and agenda panel.

The video panel will only appear (above the Presenters panel) if the presenter has chosen to use live video during the event.

1. Presenters panel

The name of the presenter(s) appear here. A microphone icon is displayed next to each presenters' name, indicating that they have the ability to speak. The microphone icon appears higlighted in yellow when the presenter is speaking.

2. Participants panel

The participants area displays the names of all participants excluding the presenter(s). The presenter may give one or more participants a microphone to allow them to speak. The microphone icon is highlighted in yellow when the participant is speaking.

3. Agenda panel

A list of agenda items for the event will be displayed here. Individual agenda items will be displayed in the main window on the right side of the interface.
