Frequently Asked Questions
This section will be regularly updated with frequently asked questions posed by CEI users. If your question is not listed her please contact your campus Online Adviser
Why am I unable to see a questionnaire when I open the CEI link on my course information page?
The automatically generated link to the CEI on each course information page is only available for students enrolled in the course - a staff logon will result in the message "There are no new CEI questionnaires available". Staff need to view their CEI and SET questionnaires via the CEI and SET instruments.
I'm a Course Coordinator. How do I get access to my courses in the CEI?
You will be able to access the CEI for all courses where Medici lists you as Course Coordinator. If you log into the CEI database and cannot access a course it is likely that your name is not listed in Medici as the Course Coordinator for the course. To have your name added to Medici you can:
- email enrolment@unisa.edu.au with a request to list you as the primary or secondary Course Coordinator in Medici, or
- request your School timetabler (PDF, 240KB) to add you to Medici as a Course Coordinator.
I'm an Acting Course Coordinator. How do I get access to my courses in the CEI?
To access the CEI for a course where you are an Acting Course Coordinator you must be listed as the primary or secondary course coordinator in Medici. If you log into the CEI and cannot find your course you can:
- email enrolment@unisa.edu.au with a request to list you as the primary or secondary Course Coordinator in Medici, or
- request your School timetabler (PDF, 240KB) to add you to Medici as a Course Coordinator.
I want to become a School CEI Administrator. What do I do?
Professional staff in Schools can be granted School administrator access to the CEI for all courses within the School (or all courses within the School offered in a particular mode). CEI School administrator access can be requested by contacting the campus Online Adviser. Please type UniSAnet - CEI Administrator Access in the Subject field of the email. You will receive an email application form that needs to be completed by either your Head of School or School Manager/School Executive Officer, and returned to the Online Adviser for action.
I am a School CEI Administrator. Can I give other Professional Staff data entry access?
Yes. Professional staff can be given access to enter data collected from Manual CEIs. Please refer to the help instructions on Provide staff access - Data entry staff.
As a Course Coordinator do I have to give/can I give other staff access to create a SET?
Generally, no. This is not necessary so long as the staff member is already registered against a class within Medici. If the staff member\s are not listed in Medici as Instructors for the required classes you or they can:
- email enrolment@unisa.edu.au with a request to list the staff member as Instructor against the relevant classes in Medici, or
- request your School timetabler (PDF, 240KB) to add you to Medici as a Course Coordinator.
Why is do I have more than one CEI?
A CEI questionnaire is created for the enrolment component (such as a lecture or practical class) of a course. Students will only be able to complete one questionnaire for the enrolment class they are enrolled in. You can check the enrolment classes for your course via the Timetable link on your course information page or contact your School timetabler.
Who is my School timetabling officer?
You can check for your School timetabler (PDF, 240KB)
I cannot see a link to SET when I am creating CEIs for my courses. Where has it gone?
The link to the SET has been removed from the CEI as the CEI and SET databases are now completely separate.
Can my CEI be published manually so that my students fill it out in class?
Yes, CEIs can be published manually. However School administrative staff assistance is required so approval must first be requested from the relevant School Executive Officer. Please also refer to help instructions on Schedule and publish.
Why can’t I find my course when I search for a course?
The most likely reason is that your name is not listed as a Course Coordinator within the Medici record for your particular course. The easiest way to check this is by visiting your Course Information page and checking if your name is listed in the Course Coordinator section. If you want to have your name added to Medici you can:
- email enrolment@unisa.edu.au with a request to list you as the primary or secondary Course Coordinator in Medici, or
- request your School timetabler (PDF, 240KB) to add you to Medici as a Course Coordinator.
Are CEIs created automatically?
Internal and External courses in Study Period 2 and Study Period 5 have CEIs automatically some time before the end of the Study Period. CEIs for all other Study Periods must be individually created by the relevant Course Coordinator or a School CEI Administrator.
Will I receive an automatically generated email reminding me about the imminent opening of a CEI?
Yes, an email to the course coordinator will be generated two weeks before the CEI becomes available to students. There will also be an entry in the All Staff email to announce the upcoming opening of Study Period 2 and Study Period 5 CEIs.
If I've created a CEI for a Study Period 2 or 5 course before the automatic generation process will my CEI be overwritten?
No. If you have created a CEI for a Study Period 2 or Study Period 5 course it will not be overwritten by the automatic creation of CEIs two weeks before the end of Study Period 2 and Study Period 5.
How will the students know that an online CEI is available?
The CEI generates an automatic email to students every morning for any CEI that opened on the previous day.
Can I change the dates the online CEI is available once it has opened?
Yes, you can but only before the "Available from" date of publishing. If you have passed the "Available from" date, then you need to contact your campus Online Adviser for assistance.
Can I change the core CEI questions?
No. The core CEI questions are mandated by the University’s Teaching and Learning Committee and cannot be omitted or changed.
Can I add more questions to the core CEI questions?
Yes, you can add up to 13 extra questions to the 10 core questions – meaning you can have a CEI with a maximum of 23 questions. Please refer to help instructions on Add questions.
I am the School CEI Administrator but still cannot find a particular course when I search. Why?
The course you are searching for might be affiliated to a program administered by a different School.
