Students FAQ
I have not used AssignIT before. Where can I get help?
Full instructions on how to use AssignIT are available in the
'Students' section of his Web site.
Why can't I upload my assignment file on a Mac?
Word files created on a Mac are often missing the ".doc" extension that is
required for them to be accepted by AssignIT and viewed on a PC. After
browsing for your file, check that it has the ".doc" extension. If it doesn't; you can type the ".doc"
extension after the file name before clicking the submit button.

Who else can access the assignments I submit to AssignIT?
Only the teaching staff in the course can access your assignments. Other
students cannot access your assignments.
Can I use AssignIT to submit assignments for all my courses?
You can only use AssignIT if the Course
Coordinator has set it up. If you have not been asked to use AssignIT by the
teaching staff in your course, ask your tutor, lecturer or Course
Coordinator about the availability of AssignIT for that course.
Can I submit the same assignment more than once before the due date?
Yes. There is no limit on the
number of times you can resubmit an assignment before the due date.
I have been given an extension. Can I still submit my assignment after
the due date has passed?
Yes, if the Course Coordinator has specified an extension period for the
assignment. Contact the Course Coordinator if you are unable to submit
your assignment after the due date.
How can I be sure that my assignment has been submitted successfully?
You can be sure that you have successfully submitted your assignment if a
submission confirmation message is displayed immediately after clicking the
'Submit' button . A confirmation email will also
be sent to your UniSA student email address. You should keep this email
message until your assignment has been marked and returned.
I can't see my course/assignment in the list. How can I submit my
assignment?
If you cannot see the relevant course or assignment when you log in to
AssignIT it means that the Course Coordinator has not set up any or all of
the assignments for that course. Contact the Course
Coordinator to ask about assignment submission.
Will my assignment be submitted to Turnitin at the same time as I
submit it to AssignIT?
No. AssignIT and Turnitin are not linked. Students can submit files to Turnitin at any time by using the
self-serve class facility.
Information for students about Turnitin can be found on the UniSAnet student help Web site.
What does it mean when an assignment is showing as "Not published" or
"Expired"?
The 'Not published' status means that the assignment has not yet been
activated for submission by the Course Coordinator. The 'Expired' status
means that the assignment submission period has ended. You can only submit
assignments that are showing as 'Available'.
I have just received my mark from the assessor. Is it possible
for me to receive their comments, or do I need to wait until the hard copy
is returned to me?
An assignment returned via AssignIT may contain feedback from your
marker and this can be viewed when you
collect
your marked assignment. Otherwise you may have to wait for the
return of the hard copy.
How long will it take to upload a file if I have Broadband?
A progress bar will indicate the speed of the upload and the time remaining.
Broadband services have been designed to make accessing the internet faster. However most of the improvement has been made in download times not in upload times. A typical broadband service will be 8 times faster than a dialup service to download information but will only be twice as fast as dialup to upload information. So a file will take at least 4-times as long to upload as it does to download.
As an example, a 30 Megabyte file will take between 33 and 45 minute to upload.
What other issues could effect my upload time?
There are many different factors that may contribute to the time it takes to upload information. Some of these are:
- The hardware specifications of your computer
- Viruses
- Firewall and/or hardware settings on your computer or modem
- Your service provider may have a large number of people trying to access the internet at the same time.
- Congestion on the internet
