Access to AssignIT
How do I get access to AssignIT to create assignments for a course?
You must be a Course Coordinator in Medici.
Contact your school's administration staff to request the change to
the Medici records for the course.
I am an acting Course Coordinator. How can I get access to AssignIT?
Contact your school's administration
staff to request the change to the Medici records for the course.
Selecting courses
Why can't I see my course in the list on the 'Select course' screen?
Either you do not have access to the course because you are not a
Course Coordinator in Medici, or the classes for the
course have not yet been scheduled in Medici. Ask your school's
administration staff to check the Medici records.
Creating assignments
Are assignments automatically created for courses?
No. All assignments must be created in AssignIT each study period by the Course
Coordinator (or a school
administrator with access to AssignIT). See
Create new assignment.
Staff alert
Why have I received duplicate AssignIT email alerts for some of the
assignments in my course?
They are not duplicates. An email alert is sent each time a student
resubmits an assignment. Check the 'submitted date' in the alert message
body—the submitted date and time will be different in every alert.
I do not wish to receive email alerts. How can I stop them?
You can turn off the alert option on the
Staff alert screen. Just remove the ticks in the boxes next to the classes
in the section relating to the staff member and click
Save.
Assignment report
What does "late" in the assignment report mean?
The 'late' status indicates that the assignment was submitted after the due
date set on the
Schedule screen.
Why does "late" appear next to some students' names in the assignment
report even though I have granted them extensions?
The 'late' status in
the
assignment report merely indicates that a student submitted an
assignment after the due date. It is possible to submit an assignment after
the due date (ie late submission) without requesting or being granted an
extension (the extension period in AssignIT is the difference between the
'Due date' and 'No submission after' date on the
Schedule screen).
Entering marks and feedback
Can I enter marks and grades into AssignIT?
Online feedback form used: Marks can be entered for individual assessment
components. This option must be selected by the Course Coordinator when they
are creating the assignment. The total of the component marks will be
displayed as a grade.
Online feedback form not used: The total mark entered will be displayed to students as a grade.
Are the marks in AssignIT linked to Grade Book and then uploaded
automatically into Medici?
No. Marks entered into AssignIT are currently only displayed in the
AssignIT assignment report and student feedback.
Returning assignments
Can I replace or remove a returned file?
Yes. You can replace a returned assignment by overwriting it with a new
one, or you can simply remove the existing file. You also have the option to
download the file to make further changes. See
Replace or remove a returned file for instructions
AssignIT will send another email notification to the student when the new file is uploaded. To avoid confusion about this email, it is recommended that you include an explanation in the Summary commentary to student text box .
Note: This process does not stop the student accessing the incorrectly returned assignment and grade or the anxiety this might cause. It is recommended that you include an explanation in the Summary commentary to student text box.
Document Services printing service
Do I have to use the Document Services printing service if I select
the "Document Services printing required" option when I create the
assignment?
No. You are not obliged to send any of the submitted assignments
to Document Services for printing. However, if you think you may like to use
the Document Services printing service for some or all of the assignments,
you must select this option when you create the assignment on the 'Create a
new assignment' screen. See Create new assignment
for instructions on setting this option. Please note you cannot select
"Document Services printing required" once the first student has lodged
their assignment via AssignIT.
How much does it cost?
The price of printing is 8.5c per single-sided A4 page.
How long does it take?
Assignments submitted today will be printed and dispatched after 9.00 am
the day after tomorrow. Contact Document Services direct on 8302 6966 to
enquire about the express service and/or other printing issues.
How do I send the assignments to Document Services?
If the "Document Services printing required" option was selected when
the assignment was created you can send the files via the 'Collect
assignments' screen by selecting the 'Document Services Printing' option.
See
Collect Assignments for instructions.
Can my markers send files to Document Services?
No. Only Course Coordinators have the ability to send files to Document
Services.
Which file types can Document Services print?
- MS Word document (.doc and docx)
- Text file (.txt)
- Rich Text Format (.rtf)
- Acrobat document (.pdf)
- Java language (.java)
- HTML document (.htm)
Where are printed assignments delivered?
Assignments will be delivered to the UniSA campus address you specify.
See Document Services printing for
instructions.
Miscellaneous
Can I print assignments in bulk?
Yes. It is possible to print multiple files at the same time from
Windows Explorer. See
Microsoft Office help - Bulk printing for instructions.
Can I change the scheduled dates and assignment details after the
assignment has become active?
Yes. However this should be
avoided as it may cause confusion amongst students who, for example, are
unable to resubmit an assignment because the 'Assignment opens' date has
changed or those who have prepared files in a different format than what is
now accepted.
How long are assignments stored in AssignIT?
All submitted assignments can be collected up to 18 months after the end of
the relevant study
period. The assignments are archived to disk after this time. If you have a need to retrieve archived assignments please contact
the IT Help
Desk.
Are assignments submitted to Turnitin at the same time as they are
submitted to AssignIT?
No. AssignIT and Turnitin are not linked however, once a fortnight, the
assignments of five students are selected randomly across the University and
submitted to Turnitin. The originality report and possibly the assignment
(if it's not too large) is sent to the course coordinator.
Staff and students can submit files to Turnitin at any time using the class details available on the Turnitin self-serve class details Web page (log in is required). Information for students about using Turnitin can be found on the UniSAnet student help Web site.
