Save & reduce file size

Paint.NET allows you to create a new image with the Save As process and retain the original version. If saving in JPEG format, the file size can be reduced at the same time.

Before completing the steps below; please check information on:

Before saving and reducing the file size, you will need to:

 Save As from File menu

  1. Click File.
  2. Click Save As.

The Save As window will open.

Browse to save image

  1. Select the location into which the image will be saved.
  2. Enter a new file name.
    Note:  A new file name is required so that the original image can be retained.
  3. Select the required image format from the drop down list.
  4. Click Save.

If saving in GIF format, the new image will be saved to the selected location and the process is complete.

If saving in JPEG format, the Save Configuration window will open.

  1. Click and drag the Quality slider to the left.
  2. View the reducing File Size as the slider is moved.
  3. Click OK when the required file size is achieved.
