Images are saved in different formats, depending on their graphic qualities. Although there are many image formats; GIF and JPEG are most commonly used for images on the Web.

GIF (Graphic Interchange Format) is used for images with few colours and strong definition between each colour. For example, a logo such as the UniSA one above is best saved as a GIF file.

JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) format is used for images containing many shades of colour. For example, a photograph such as the one above is best saved as a JPEG file.
