What
makes me interested in the pharmacy program is actually the nature of
possibilities of variety experiences in a pharmacist's life. Being a
pharmacy student, our studies are not just all about drugs and patient
outcomes but it also involves a whole range of management skills.

The practical aspect of this program makes it enjoyable; this includes
extemporaneous preparation of products in the labs as well as patient
counselling (a new part of a course that us as students are exposed to
this year). There is so much more to pharmacy than just a normal
dispenser behind the counter at community pharmacies.

During the Pharmacy degree we were given from first to third year to
complete 200 hours worth of work experience. I completed mine at 2
different pharmacies during this time. Some time in 1st year, I
volunteered at the Pharmacy Progression Awareness Campaign. In 4th year,
we were able to select 2 placements from any field of pharmacy – I chose
a community pharmacy of a huge pharmacy group and a hospital placement,
both of which I enjoyed thoroughly.

A
career in medical science appealed to me, and I decided on pharmacy due
to the diverse range of career opportunities available in community,
hospital, academia and industry. I was keen to continue studying in
South Australia, and UniSA provided me with that opportunity.

I
studied pharmacy as I saw it as a career option with a bright future
while offering the opportunity to promote better health outcomes in the
community. This area of study is important as it allows me to actively
contribute to the well-being of the community while optimising local and
international health outcomes; something of tremendous importance all
over the world.
