Rebecca Nolan - Bachelor of Health Science (Honours)

Rebecca NolanDuring my Honours program I focused on the pressure distribution and proprioceptive changes in the lower limb associated with a 12-week stationary cycling program. Essentially, is cycling an effective choice of exercise for adults with Type 2 diabetes?

I chose this topic as “I believe that research in the area of Type 2 Diabetes is critical as the incidence rate will only continue to rapidly grow due to various environmental and lifestyle factors.  It is very important to understand what exactly is the cause behind the lower limb complications associated with Type 2 Diabetes such as ulceration and amputation, and hence establish an exercise program which will help to reduce these risks and ultimately improve the person's quality of life.

I hope to continue my research in the area of exercise and Type 2 Diabetes and become a leader in this field. My Honours Degree has set me up with the appropriate research skills such as working with my participants and supervisors and learning to administer a research project with appropriate time management. It has provided me with the invaluable experience of knowing what it takes to work towards a large goal, and achieve it.”
