Ala Al-Khafaji (Laboratory Medicine)

I chose to study Laboratory Medicine because it is very interesting and contains lots of practical work. This area of study is important to me because I have the chance to learn about microbes and how they can affect our lives. I am also able to get to know the blood groups and other things related to that which is very useful in pathology and identifying different diseases. Moreover, I will be able to help people and find ways of protecting them against disease.

UniSA is the only university that offers this type of program and UniSA supports the students with interesting practical work and experiments. What I enjoy most about studying at UniSA is working with students from different backgrounds and having the opportunity to work in laboratories.

In practicals we have the opportunity to actually know how a particular thing feels and what it looks like and not just by watching! We might also find something easy only by watching. However, we would find out that it is not like what we thought at all. So, experience and practice is very important in developing our self-confidence.

When I finish my degree I would love to be one of the students who receive the offer for further studies. Also during that I would be looking for a good job and if I am lucky I would travel overseas.
