Professor Adrian Esterman
Foundation Chair in Biostatistics
Professor Adrian Esterman is a biostatistician and epidemiologist with over thirty years consulting experience. He has worked as a staff member of the World Health Organization for seven years including postings in Geneva and Copenhagen. He holds adjunct appointments in the Schools of Medicine of Adelaide and Flinders universities. He has extensive experience in designing, running and analysing epidemiological studies and clinical trials.
Professor Esterman has research expertise in many areas of population health, health services research and epidemiology. Current research interests include cancer epidemiology and cancer screening, nursing and allied health research, ENT and respiratory studies, and pharmacoepidemiology.
He is currently on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Rural and Remote Health, the Journal of the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists, and the BMC Journal of Chiropractic and Osteopathy and is Scientific Editor for the Australasian Epidemiologist. He is a reviewer for the Medical Journal of Australia, Australia & New Zealand Journal of Public Health, Military Medicine, Statistics in Medicine, Clinical Endocrinology, BMC Health Services Research, Foot and Ankle International and Gerontology. He reviews grants for the Health Research Council of New Zealand, Healthway Western Australia and the Cancer Council of NSW and is a member of the Public Health GRP of NHMRC.
He is a member of the prestigious international faculty of ACORD, a biennial workshop that trains medical oncologists from the Asia Pacific region, and has recently run a workshop on pharmacoepidemiology for the Malaysian government. He is Vice-President of the Australasian Epidemiological Association. Professor Esterman has over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals, many with high impact factors, and is a current Chief Investigator on nationally competitive grants worth several million dollars.
