Division of Health Science wins over $1 million in research grants

In the latest round of ARC Linkage grants announced in Canberra, the Division of Health Sciences has won ARC funding for four research projects. The ARC grants awarded to the Division of Health Sciences total $1.2 million. This is in addition to the $3.5 million in funds and other support to these projects from industry and government partners.

Professor Doug Brooks has won support for research into the development of a gene delivery system to access neuronal cells which have a direct significance in treating mental health disorders and other similar conditions.

Two projects to be undertaken by Professor Leonie Segal have been successful - the development of an evidence-based primary health care model to support best practice in chronic disease management and the development of an evidence-based strategy to reduce child abuse and neglect and associated harms.

Dr Jim Dollman's project will explore the factors that influence diet and exercise patterns and behaviours in children from low socio-economic neighbourhoods.

These recipients will be working with a range of partner organisations from government and industry.

The University of South Australia won ARC Linkage funding of about $2.5 million for 10 projects in this latest Round of announcements, putting UniSA ahead of most other Australian universities.
