Visiting Scholars

The National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education is pleased to be hosting the visits to Australia of two leading international scholars - Professor Miriam David from the Institute of Education, University of London and Professor Lori Beckett from Leeds Metropolitan University.

Professor Miriam David

The National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education and The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre is pleased to present a public event featuring Professor Miriam David, an international scholar with a world class reputation for her research. Professor Miriam David is Professor of Sociology of Education and Associate Director (Higher Education) Teaching and Learning Research Programme at the Institute of Education, University of London. In her current role, Miriam is responsible for research projects on widening participation and learning within higher education as well as issues around social diversity and difference across all levels of education. The title of this seminar is: Diversity, equity and gender in participation in higher education.

Professor Lori Beckett

Lori Beckett holds the position of The Winifred Mercier Professor of Teacher Education, Carnegie Faculty of Sport and Education at Leeds Metropolitan University. Professor Beckett's main research interests focus on equity and social justice and how these are realised through schooling and education more broadly. Lori's public speaking events include: 'Doing Knowledge work in tough schools' at the University of Sydney on 27th October and Flinders University on 10th November from 4.00-6.00pm in the Education Building, Room 2.09. A public lecture will also be held at 5.30pm in the Bradley Forum titled 'Smarter Schools: CoAG National Partnerships Round Table'. Social Inclusion in Education conference

The National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education (NCSEHE) is hosting the Inaugural Social Inclusion in Education: Participation and partnerships for social inclusion in education conference in Sydney on October 22nd and 23rd. This conference brings together educators and administrators from all education sectors in order to create partnership opportunities and to identify issues that are central to the social inclusion agenda. It has been specifically designed to be of value to senior managers in higher education, vocational education and training, and schooling as well as relevant officers and managers in state and federal government departments.
