Research Highlights
AWALI 2009 - Work, Life & Workplace Flexibility
The third report of the Centre's Australian Work and Life Index (AWALI) will be launched in Adelaide on July 30th. In March 2009, 2691 Australian workers were interviewed and AWALI 2009 focuses on workers' requests for flexibility and their outcomes, provides some international comparisons of work-life interactions and considers how work-life pressures affect participation in education and training.
International scholar provides US perspective
Professor Eileen Appelbaum of the School of Management and Labor Relations and Director of the Center for Women and Work at Rutgers University is visiting the Centre for Work + Life in August. Eileen will present a lecture Work-Life balance policies in a declining economy: are they still win-win? This lecture, on 12 August 2009, will examine US federal and state policies and initiatives to improve work-life balance in a context where the US ranks close to the bottom among countries in terms of workers' access to job-protected unpaid and paid leave for childbirth and bonding, to recover from an illness, or to care for a seriously ill family member.
Research training and PhDs
The Centre trains and supports postgraduate students and has identified
potential PhD topics for 2010. Inquiries are welcome from prospective
research students.
