Blanche d'Alpuget in conversation with writer, Michael Jacobs
Tuesday 26 August, refreshments from 5.00pm for 5.40pm start
Sarah's Cafe, 12 Leigh Street, Adelaide
Presented by Melbourne University Press with the assistance of Imprints Booksellers, The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre and Sarah's - The Sustainable Cafes
Blanche d'Alpuget's meditation on longing is the story of a love affair
and a spiritual journey. It is a moving tribute to her Muse that will
surprise and touch readers.
The spiritual journey raises questions we all must ask, and try to answer, about death. D'Alpuget explores in detail her compelling affair with and marriage to former Prime Minister Bob Hawke – their passion for each other—and what happens when such powerful emotions, such as longing, are denied.
Blanche d'Alpuget is the biographer of Sir Richard Kirby and Bob Hawke, and the author of the novels Turtle Beach and Winter in Jerusalem, among others.
Buy refreshments and your copy of the book from 5pm. Signed copies will be available. Conversation with Blanche commences at 5.40pm.
While the views presented by speakers within the Hawke Centre public program are their own and are not necessarily those of either the University of South Australia or The Hawke Centre, they are presented in the interest of open debate and discussion in the community and reflect our themes of: strengthening our democracy – valuing our diversity – and building our future.
