Hawke Centre Youth Adviser
Nick
Palousis is the Honorary Youth Advisor to the Hawke Centre's Kerry Packer Civic
Gallery. Nick is the University of South Australia's William T. Southcott
Scholar, undertaking research to develop an engineering decision-support
tool for identifying, assessing and managing business risks associated with
sustainability and climate change.
He is also an Associate for Sustainable Business Practices (www.sbpractices.com), a consulting firm helping companies to become more competitive by integrating sustainability with business strategy and operations. Nick is the recipient of the 2007 Eureka Prize for Young Leaders in Environmental Issues and Climate Change, and SA Great's 2006 Young South Australian of the Year.
"The Hawke Centre offers the opportunity to contribute to a sustainable South Australia in broader, more implicit ways that an engineer wouldn’t normally engender. Sustainability is so much more than technological solutions -- strengthening our democracy and valuing our cultural diversity are crucial elements in building a sustainable future.
Initiatives such as the Kerry Packer Civic Gallery seek to tap into people on these elements at a deeper, more thought-provoking level; I feel extremely privileged to be contributing to this and future Hawke Centre initiatives."
