Prerequisites
The Hawke Ambassador Program has three important prerequisites. Students must have:
- Completed the courses: Introduction to International Relations (POLI 1010) or equivalent, and Intercultural Communication (LANG 1054) or equivalent
- Applied to the International office using the on-line application form
- Participated in the International Volunteering Workshop
- A minimum Grade Point Average of 5.0 (with no more than 2 fail grades)
Selection Process
There will be a selection process for the Hawke Ambassador to determine suitability. The criteria will include:
- Successful completion of the prerequisites listed above.
- A short interview with the selection panel comprising representatives from the School of International Studies, the Hawke Centre, and UniSA International.
- Information presented in the online application form, including:
- A 250-500 word statement outlining why you would like to be involved in the Program and the particular country and volunteering project they wish to take part in.
- An academic reference.
The Hawke Ambassador Program is a prestigious Program and, as such, there
are only a limited number of places available each year.
The Program is not currently available to students studying in a part-time
mode or those taking the BA International Studies or the Double Degree
Programs externally.
Interviews will take place in the first week of March, 2007. Successful
candidates will be notified by email at the end of that week.
Guidelines for Submitting Online Application Form
This information is to provide students applying to the Hawke Ambassador
International Volunteer Experience Program with assistance in completing
their online applications.

Note: This online application form is used for all students intending to
applying for a UniSA student exchange. As such, some terms may not
specifically apply to students involved in the Hawke Ambassador
International Volunteer Experience Program. For the purposes of this
application, the term “student exchange” refers to participation in the
Hawke Ambassador Program.
Students should find that completing the application form is relatively
straightforward. However, the guidelines have been outlined below:

Program must be completed and submitted electronically. Please disregard the
closing dates stated at the top of the online application form.

List in order of priority, the institutions to which you wish to apply
Students should list up to 3 preferred Hawke Ambassador partner
organisations in this space.
The partner organisations involved in the Hawke Ambassador International
Volunteer Experience Program are:

When do you plan to go on exchange?
Hawke Ambassador applicants will undertake the international volunteering component of this Program either in Study Period 5, 2007 and Study Period 5, in 2008.
Do you currently receive Youth Allowance or Austudy?
Students may be eligible to receive continued Centrelink payments whilst undertaking the overseas component of the Hawke Ambassador Program. Students should enter their Centrelink Reference Number if applicable, and UniSA International will provide a letter certifying enrolment status for Centrelink purposes. Please note that it remains the responsibility of the student to organise his or her own Centrelink payments.
UniSA Travel Grant
Students should select “Yes” if they wish to be considered for a travel grant of up to $2,500 from the University.
Statement of Purpose
Students should complete the 250-500 word statement outlining why they would like to be involved in the Hawke Ambassador Program and the particular country and volunteering project they wish to take part in. The information provided in this statement will be used to select students for participation in the Hawke Ambassador Program. Students should remember that the Hawke Ambassador Program is a prestigious Program and, as such, there are only a limited number of places available each year.
UniSA Academic Staff Member Recommendation
Please follow the instructions in the online application form for obtaining an academic staff member recommendation. Academic staff will complete the “Academic Recommendation Form” and submit this to UniSA International. The information provided in this recommendation will be used to assess students’ suitability for participation in the Hawke Ambassador Program.
