Six Sigma Black Belt business training

As part of its suite of business improvement programs, UniSA Strategic Partnerships will deliver internationally recognised Six Sigma Black Belt Training in 2008. Business Partnerships Manager in UniSA’s Division of Business, Robert Lloyd said it was the first time the program would be available in South Australia.

"Previously students had to travel to the eastern states or overseas for up to four weeks to complete this training," he said.

Six Sigma is a philosophy for business improvement, developed by Motorola in the mid ‘80s, that values defect prevention over defect detection methods.

"Six Sigma drives customer satisfaction and bottom line profit improvement by reducing variation and eliminating waste, thereby continually improving organisations’ competitive position," Lloyd said.

"In Australia most major banks and mining companies are using their own versions of Six Sigma, as well as the Australian divisions of multinationals."

UniSA has an agreement with the American Society for Quality (ASQ) to deliver Six Sigma Green and Black Belt programs. These programs are designed to provide participants with the necessary skills and knowledge for the ASQ Certification examination.

Lloyd said ASQ certification is considered a mark of quality excellence by most industries around the world.

"Our courses are delivered by ASQ approved Master Black Belts who are hands on practitioners with past experience of Six Sigma application within Motorola."

The Black Belt program is offered in four, one-week courses between May and September, and also provides credit for one course in the MBA or Masters of Management program.
