Artistic freak out

by Rodney Magazinovic

Nick Deboar's entry entitled "Ink Freak"National youth radio broadcaster Triple J recently asked designers, artists, animators and filmmakers from across Australia to make a 30 second visual representation of Triple J, and BA graduate Nick Deboar decided to have a crack at it.

His piece, Ink Freak, involves a guy getting some rock ’n’ roll tattoos, which then come to life. It was an ambitious production combining live action, illustration, compositing, motion tracking and many late nights. Despite the numerous technical challenges Deboar, who majored in multimedia, was still able to achieve his creative vision and style.

After enduring a nervous wait, having made the final nine entries, Deboar’s piece was chosen as the winner out of more than160 national entries. As part of his prize he received a Macintosh laptop and a Sony camcorder

"Other submissions were of a really high standard so I was thrilled to win," Deboar said.

Since graduating in 2003, Deboar has been employed in a number of multimedia production roles including working on the film Wolf Creek and a number of music video clips including those for award winning hip hop band The Hilltop Hoods.

He is currently employed as a visual effects designer at multimedia company Oasis Post, which specialises in editing and visual effects on feature films, TV series, music videos and commercials.
