Offshore honour for fishy business plan

Ken Ng Choon Aik, Mervynn Lee and Melissa Tan Jin PengA team of three students in the first intake of UniSA’s undergraduate business program being delivered by Taylor’s University College in Malaysia has taken out the regional gold award in the Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) Young Entrepreneur Awards 2007.

Ken Ng Choon Aik, Mervynn Lee and Melissa Tan Jin Peng (pictured from left) and Ken Ng Choon Aik, calling themselves Team Zerocool, beat four other teams to win a $3500 business development fund and the opportunity to represent Malaysia in the finals in Hong Kong this month.

The HSBC Young Entrepreneur Awards is a regional business plan writing competition open to post-secondary students in Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Bangladesh and Vietnam to demonstrate their creativity and business acumen.

Team Zerocool won with their plan for Fishworm Corporation, a business idea to create a fish feed alternative from palm oil waste extract.

Pro Vice Chancellor for Division of Business, Professor Gerry Griffin, congratulated the winning team.

"This is a great achievement and recognition of the team’s innovative business plan and hard work," Prof Griffin said.

"It is also a measure of the high calibre of students undertaking UniSA programs in Malaysia through our partner, Taylor’s University College."

The team that wins the regional competition will be awarded an HSBC business development fund of $15,000.
