A little taste of ...
Coffee in the suburbs
by Sophie Davies
When
I lived in the Barossa, we were starved for good coffee and for far too long
a really good coffee meant a voyage into the city. This is no longer the
case. The blondes at Blond Coffee have taken the Barossa, and Angaston in
particular, by storm. Cecelia and Amanda, both city expatriates who found
love in the vineyards, have taken a brilliant yet simple concept of fabulous
coffee (they use a fresh aromatic blend from Rio) and pleasurable wholesome
food, and shown the locals exactly what they were missing. So successful is
Blond Coffee that it will soon be expanding to include a sumptuous Providore,
supplying all the goods that a regular trip to the Central Markets once
provided, and more.
Another location for fine coffee and all things food is The Food Business, located in the fine “burb” of Hazelwood Park. This tiny eatery – only open for breakfast and lunch – knows exactly what memorable coffee (they have Amanti coffee delivered from Victoria twice weekly) and sensational food is about. My suggested dining experience is a late weekend breakfast. Try the spicy baked beans with chorizo or sweetcorn fritters with bacon, tomato and fresh wild rocket straight out of their garden. If you have more of a sweet tooth then order the waffles with caramelised banana, cream and almonds to complement your freshly prepared coffee.
