Graduation bonus
When
Lynne Hodges graduated from her nursing degree, she didn't expect to
receive anything for filling out a Graduate Destination Survey.
So she was excited to discover she had won $500 for her efforts.
“I didn’t even remember I was in the draw until the University called me,” Hodges said.
“I was just glad to have something to do while waiting for my graduation ceremony to begin.
“It helped to calm my nerves.”
The Graduate Destination Survey is an annual national review of graduate employment rates, starting salaries and further education. This year UniSA offered the chance for graduates completing the survey to go into a draw to win $500.
Hodges is working as a registered nurse at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and intends to return to UniSA to study midwifery in the future.
She said the unexpected windfall will go towards a new computer, which will certainly be useful.
“I’ve got a really old computer and this will go towards getting a new one,” Hodges said.
“It takes me hours to answer a few emails at the moment.”
Hodges, who graduated in April, said her degree was invaluable.
“I was already a working enrolled nurse when I began studying,” she said.
“The nursing degree gave me a more focused understanding of medicine.
“I’m keen to learn more but I’m going to work for a little while to get more experience and earn some money.
“The great thing is as a registered nurse I can now work and travel. I can go anywhere in the world with nursing.”
