Golf challenge raises scholarship funds
Pronounced
as the “best ever” by the Chancellor himself, the fifth Chancellor's
Golf Challenge, held at Kooyonga Golf Club on November 4, raised a
record $28,000 to go towards scholarships for UniSA students.
The Ambrose event attracted 120 players, representing more than 65
companies and organisations. With a forecast for thunderstorms, organisers
made contingency plans for wet weather, but Mother Nature seemed to be on
side, with the rain stopping in time to allow for a very fun afternoon of
golf.
The
winning team was Harris Scarfe's Harry's Hackers (Robert Atkins, Ben Tuohy,
Bruce Carter and Peter Joy), with Yvonne Clark's team (including Susan Hunt,
Judy Ford and Judith Phillips) taking out the NAGA award.
After the competition a record 135 people attended a dinner at the
clubrooms, which included an auction and raffle, raising more than $9,000
(to go towards Postgraduate Transitions Grants). Another highlight included
a 'live news report' by the ABC's Rebecca Morse (including clips from the
day's golf), as well as the presentation of a Certificate of Appreciation
from the UniSA Foundation to Dr Chew Kia Ngee.
The
organisers would like to thank the following sponsors and friends for their
generous support: Kooyonga Golf Club, Rider Hunt, Ernst & Young, Gillingham
Printers, Corporate Express, Hansen Yuncken, the ABC's Rebecca Morse, Oren
Klemich (Klemich Real Estate), Priscila Duffield, Mutual Community, Sarah
McDonald, Sue Wills Catering, Geoff Merrill Wines, Are you Being Served?,
Harris Scarfe, Listerine PocketPaks, Hamilton's Sunscreen, Winemakers’
Federation of Australia, and Frucor Beverages.
