Gieco Life Scholarship winner - Sonia Pringle

I believe being involved in education at all levels can bring about change and understanding. - Sonia Pringle

Sonia Pringle, a 34 year old student, a worker and a proud mother of two, has been recently awarded with the Gieco Life Scholarship. This scholarship recognises the efforts of those who successfully balance their studies and their work or family commitments.

Sonia is studying Bachelor of Education, Junior Primary and Primary at Magill campus, UniSA. She has been a Golden Key member since 2005, and has achieved places in both the Chancellor's and the Dean Merit Lists.

She works part time at her local high school as the Principal's secretary and teaching Chinese students ESL. Her weekends are devoted to her children's activities, their relationship as a family and studying.

Sonia puts great value in education, both her children's and hers. As a result she spends time on committees and attending functions to promote education.

She shares with us her attraction to some of the scholarships offered by Golden Key, as she is actually eligible to apply for some.

'Generally, I am too old or don't study full time which excluded me from other scholarships'

Her final decision to apply for this scholarship was made as a result of an email from Golden Key stating not many people actually applied for scholarships and also the fact that this scholarship was for people who successfully managed study and work or family commitments.

I would encourage anyone else to apply for a scholarship if they meet the criteria. My success took only a few hours and gave me a chance to go through my personal achievements and write them down. It was actually quite enlightening to put onto paper what I do every day. For a small investment of time, the rewards were huge and, I believe, achievable by others.

Sonia is currently on the Governing Council at her children's school and was chairperson of the local Community Children's Centre for four years.
