Survey Results
Published: January 26, 2006
At the end of November last year the UniSA Golden Key chapter conducted an online survey to find out more about what our members think about Golden Key and our activities. An email was sent out to all members inviting them to take part in the survey. 57 members responded to the survey and provided the committee with important insights and also good ideas for improvement and future activities. The chapter wishes to thank everyone who took part in the survey. Your contribution is very important to the chapter!
The respondents
The respondents were from a broad range of academic fields including Marketing, Communications, Property, Human Resource Management, Law, Visual Arts, Pharmacy, Engineering, Physiotherapy and Education. About half of the respondents were full time students and about half alumni. The students were evenly spread over all five of UniSA's campuses. A majority of the respondents had never attended any Golden Key event.
Reasons for joining the Society
The respondents indicated that the two main reasons why they had chosen to join Golden Key were the opportunity to put this distinction on their resume and the networking opportunities the Society can provide.
The chapter website
Only 19 respondents said that they visited the chapter web site www.unisa.edu.au/golden monthly. The others visited is less often or never. Since a lot of important information is regularly published on the web site this indicated that the executive committee must increase its efforts to promote the chapter web site.
Activities and events
Many of the respondents said that they would be interested in attending a dinner function organised by the chapter. Some other social events suggested by the respondents included:
- Bushwalking
- Forums to meet notable Golden Key members
- Picnic
- Movie night
- Wine tour
- Bowling
- Christmas function
- Drinks night
Other services and events suggested included:
- Job opportunities emailed out to members
- More social functions
- A seminar about study techniques
- Networking functions
- Career assistance
- Mentor program
In regards to career or educational events the greatest interest was expressed for a networking event and personal development sessions.
The interests for fundraising events were low.
Tutoring service
65% of the respondents said that they would be interested in gaining private tutor work with the assistance of Golden Key. This is a very positive result in regards to the Tutoring Program the chapter is currently developing. It indicates that there potentially are a lot of members that are interested to become involved in this program in the future.
Other
Some of the respondents mentioned that they do not feel informed about the events that the chapter organises. This is something the committee should look into. It is important that the emails we send out are clear so that the members understand who the sender is and who the recipients are. At the same time it is important to find a balance and not send out to many emails because if the members perceive that we are flooding their mailboxes that will not reflect positively on the chapter.
We should also look into the email list we use and make sure that it is up to date. We should encourage our members to logon to the international website and update their contact details so we do not loose touch with our members.
