When the construction of the new Mawson Centre commences this month it
will be a landmark in the development of a long-term vision for education at
Mawson Lakes that has been a part of UniSA’s planning for more than seven
years.
The $9.2 million development is the result of an innovative partnership
between the SA Department of Education & Children's Services (DECS), UniSA,
the City of Salisbury, Delfin Lend Lease and Land Management Corporation.
The partnership is unique in that it is the first time a university, a
government education department, Local Government and a local developer have
worked together to plan and build an integrated central facility for the
general community.
Builders John Hindmarsh (SA) Pty Ltd and architects MGT Canberra Architects
and Russell & Yelland Architects will be working on a project many believe
is the first of its kind in Australia.
Premier Mike Rann will unveil a plaque to mark the commencement of
construction of The Mawson Centre on Thursday 12 February 2004 at 11.00am,
with over 100 guests attending and a visually stunning art performance by
Mawson Lakes School students a major feature at the event.
