The Wark Fund

Research in laboratoryThe Ian Wark Research Institute, now known as
The Wark, was founded in 1994. It is a key research concentration in the University of South Australia, and an international magnet for research. The Wark advances global knowledge and understanding in interface science and engineering through breakthrough science and technology transfer.

The Wark offer benefits to a wide range of industries, including minerals and materials processing, chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and specialty manufacturing. Focusing on both fundamental research and real-world applications, what sets The Wark apart is the ability to explore new realms to create knowledge, and then turn those ideas into effective industrial outcomes.

The Wark seeks to break down many of the boundaries commonly surrounding research. By minimising and bridging the divisions between pure and applied research, the university environment and industry, the Institute enjoys a unique research environment. Industries and research institutions worldwide find people they can work with, to develop new ideas and processes and to innovate.

The Wark Fund was established in 2008 to secure funding to support the activities of The Wark and to foster collaboration on academic research endeavours between the University and interested people and organizations in business and industry. The primary objective of the fund is to support The Wark in the pursuit of excellence in research and research education.
