Welcome to the Gift of Knowledge 2009
Welcome from the Vice Chancellor and President
If
you're visiting this website, you obviously have an interest in learning,
whether it is about a topic which has an impact on your career or on your life.
I would like to invite you to learn more about our Gift of Knowledge series by attending one or more of the series presentations.
The researchers at UniSA recognise substance amidst the ordinary and it is their energy and acuity which are helping to bring about solutions to the major issues of our time. I commend their passion, their persistence, their patience and above all, their will to make a difference for the better. I welcome you to learn more about the contributions we are making to our communities, both nationally and internationally.
Ultimately, that is a key purpose and responsibility of ours: to fulfil our vision by building partnerships, engaging with our community and disseminating knowledge.
Professor Peter Høj,
Vice Chancellor and President
Welcome from the
Deputy Vice Chancellor and
Vice President: Research and Innovation
This
year's Gift of Knowledge series offers you,
our academic and industry partners, alumni and friends, a golden opportunity to
pick up the latest intelligence from some of our leading researchers. Each
lecture is a densely packed hour of powerful information, presenting the
findings, implications and future directions of our research directly from those
who have uncovered it. You'll also have the opportunity to question them.
Of course, it's only possible to present fresh insights when you have the culture, people and will to find them. At UniSA, research is integral to our mission. Our researchers work in multidisciplinary teams to innovate and push back the boundaries, creating results with demonstrable social, environmental and economic benefits, rather than ideas that never see the light of day. Testimony to that is our ability to implement these initiatives by collaborating with our partners to add value to the industry, health and welfare not just of Australians, but the global community.
In 2009, Gift of Knowledge again brings together four popular series of lectures (Working Links from the Division of Business; Body of Knowledge from the Division of Health Sciences; Science and Engineering for a Sustainable Future from the Division of Information Technology, Engineering and the Environment; and Hawke Research Institute Professorial Lecture Series from the Division of Education, Arts and Social Sciences featuring researchers from the Hawke Research Institute for Sustainable Societies). In addition, two thought-provoking panel seminars will be featured from UniSA's Research and Innovation Clusters, including one early morning seminar.
I take great pleasure in inviting you to something of a rarity: 14 events that will cost nothing more than your time, yet reward you with a gift of knowledge.
Professor Caroline McMillen
Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice President: Research and Innovation
