Carbonomics: the emerging economic paradigms of the greenhouse effect

The Kyoto Protocol is the first step towards stabilising global emissions of carbon dioxide.

But what is carbon regulation? And what actions are required by companies striving to decrease their contribution to the increasing greenhouse effect? This lecture will offer details about the impact of the Kyoto protocol in a number of areas of economics - financial markets, international trade, supply-chain management, financial reporting and assurance and cost analysis - as countries enact carbon trading legislation.

It will also explore how countries, business organisations and individuals appear to be woefully ill prepared to meet the challenges posed by the new paradigm of carbonomics.

Professor Janek Ratnatunga

Professor Ratnatunga joined UniSA as Head of the School of Commerce in 2009, after 18 years as the Chair in Business Accounting at Monash University. His expertise and interests lie in the carbon emissions trading impact on business strategy and reporting, reputation risk management and the marketing-finance interface.

He is currently the Editor of the Journal of Applied Management Accounting Research and has published more than 200 articles and books internationally.

Earlier this year he was the joint recipient of the prestigious American Accounting Association's Impact on Management Accounting Practice Award.
