Life at uni
Uni is quite
different from school. Instead of classes, you attend lectures and tutorials.
Your time is your own, you learn more about the world around you and get
treated like an adult.
UniSA has a friendly and flexible environment to allow you to put in your best for your study but also have fun, make new friends and enjoy life.
How we teach
As a student you will attend various kinds of classes, including lectures, tutorials, practicals and field trips. Lectures are presented by lecturers to a large group of students. You will be required to listen and take notes. Tutorials are less formal and more interactive. They are smaller and run by a tutor. At tutorials you discuss the course material in more detail, and you get to ask questions, throw in ideas and discuss issues.
Practicals occur in different forms. They may take place in a laboratory, on a computer, or based around the use of specialised equipment. They help you develop your practical skills by applying what you've learned at lectures. Field trips take you out of the university environment to study a particular topic. Field trips can range from short excursions to trips stretching over a few days.
Many UniSA programs involve work placements as part of your program of study.
Many of our courses require you to sit for exams at the end of each semester, but usually your final grade is determined by a combination of assignments, practical exercises and exams.
Computers for students
Each UniSA campus has computer pools dedicated for student use. Selected computer pools are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week (except Whyalla open 7am - 11pm every day).
Social activities
The UniSA Students Association organises a range of tours, day trips, activities and short courses throughout the year for all UniSA students. They're a great way to meet other students, see some of Australia and learn new skills - all at great student prices too!
You could find yourself travelling into central Australia on our Outback Adventure Tour, skiing down the slopes of Mount Hotham in Victoria during our annual snow trip, embarking on a day trip to the beautiful Adelaide Hills or coastal Victor Harbor, learning how to scuba dive on an internationally certified Scuba Diving Course, enjoying food and music from all over the world during Multicultural Week, learning new skills at a Senior First Aid Course or indulging in music, food, drink and great company at one of our many social gatherings.

Clubs and societies
Joining a club or society is a great way to make new friends, keep fit and mentally stimulated and enjoy a well deserved break from study. The UniSA Students Association helps students organise and operate a range of sporting (competitive and recreational), cultural, religious, political, study, social and special interest clubs and societies. You could have a go at soccer, ballroom dancing or judo, learn about French culture or chess, or indulge your passion for Japanese animation or hip hop music. With over 90 clubs and societies the possibilities are endless - and if you can't find one that interests you, you can start one yourself.
