With expert teaching staff and strong links with industry, UniSA offers the chance to gain valuable real-life experience and specialised knowledge. In recent years we have won numerous awards and commendations for our progressive approach to education, teaching and research.
UniSA offers maximum flexibility to people who want to study. Many programs can be undertaken wholly or partially online. For further information about these programs, and procedures for admission and enrolment, go to information about off-campus study.
How does UniSA support reservists?
UniSA provides additional support for students that are reservists:
A student who is a member of the Australian Defence Force Reserve and as such is required to render Reserve service may apply for adjustments to attendance and assessment requirements. Reserve service also include continuous full time service (e.g. Reservist who are part of a peace keeping or humanitarian aid operations)
Support includes:
- arrangements to receive learning materials in alternative formats if they are unable to attend face-to face classes while rendering Defence service
- application for additional time to complete assessment requirements, on the grounds of having rendered Defence service
- application for special consideration in the end of unit examination on the grounds of having rendered Defence service
A student whose Defence Reserves service commitments impact negatively upon their attendance and assessment performance may apply for special consideration to withdraw from the course without academic penalty (that is without a grade or fail on their academic record for units being undertaken in the current study period).
Where a student is forced to defer or withdraw from study in order to render Reserve service, the University will remit the students HECS for the relevant courses, if the withdrawal occurs after the HECS Census date. If the student is enrolled in a full fee-paying course and is forced to withdraw, the University will refund the student's fees for that course.
What courses are tailored for Defence Personnel?
UniSA offers EDUC 1070 Service Learning in the Australian Defence Force as an elective of BUGE in programs - download the brochure(750kb - download Adobe Acrobat). This course acknowledges the service learning opportunity provided by participating in the reserves. UniSA's graduate qualities (GQs) are central to the course content. Students plan how they can develop GQs in the reserves, reflect on the learning that has occurred and then develop a plan for continuing to develop GQs in the future. This is a 4.5 unit course that has been designed to provide maximum flexibility. Students can take multiple study periods to complete the course (up to 12 months), with assessment deadlines negotiated and online course delivery.
