Motor vehicle insurance claim procedures

  1. Speak to the Insurance Office regarding your eligibility to claim.  Losses below are excess can not be claimed.  If you are eligible you will be sent a Motor Vehicle claim form to complete.

  2. Notify your Cost Centre Manager that you are placing an Insurance Claim.  The Cost Centre will be required to cover the cost of the  Insurance Policy excess (usually $500, but higher excesses apply for inexperienced drivers).

  3. Once the Motor Vehicle claim form is completed, take a copy (which will be given to the crash repairer) and forward the original to the Insurance Office at 101 Currie Street, or fax 8302 1699.

  4. Take the vehicle to the crash repairer of your choice. Provide the repairer with the copy of the claim form and ask to be quoted on the repairs. The repairer then needs to ring Lumley (ph 8228 1700) to book an assessor who will authorise the repairs.  You can choose to leave the vehicle at the repairers until the assessment, or return the vehicle to the repairers on the day the assessor is attending.

  5. When the assessor has inspected the vehicle and authorised the repairs, the repairer now has approval to commence work on your vehicle. The repairer should call you now, to discuss a suitable time to repair your vehicle and let you know when the repairs are expected to be finished.

  6. BEFORE collecting your vehicle you must arrange to have payment ready for the repairer of the Insurance Policy Excess amount. (Standard excess $500, other excess amounts may apply as above.) You can pay this on University Credit Card, or by FS03 Expenditure Claim.

  7. Communicate with your repairer about when the vehicle is ready. Collect the vehicle and pay the excess amount. No further paperwork is required.
