Forensic and Applied Psychology Research Group

The FAPRG is a recognised research group at the University of South Australia, based in Adelaide, South Australia.

The aim of the group is to develop research projects, evaluation and consultancy relating to Forensic Psychology and to Applied Psychology in general.

The forensic interests of the group include: criminal behaviour and its development, causes of criminality, particular offender populations, including violent offending, sex offending, drug-related offending, mental disorder and offending, child abuse, investigative and legal processes, juvenile justice, rehabilitation and treatment of offenders, program evaluation, victimology, crime prevention, suicide and self-harm in offenders, staff attributions and perceptions and prison social environments.

The group has strong links with the Department for Correctional Services in South Australia for both research and training.

Amongst the more general applied psychology interests of the group are productive ageing, ageing in the Aboriginal population, inter-generational relationships, competencies of older adults, attitudes to ageing, psychological well-being, psychotherapy process research, depression, psychological aspects of health and medical disorders, applied social psychology, effects of the media, intrinsic/extrinsic reinforcement, volunteering, group therapies, EEG biofeedback, parenting, chronic pain and psychological intervention and assessment.
