Strategic Crisis Management Team
UniSA's approach to crisis
management
In 2002 a project team was formed to identify and implement a crisis
management process and as a result the University's Crisis Management
Framework was developed. The Framework aims to minimise any adverse
consequences to people, assets, the environment and the University's
reputation caused by any event or situation. It works on the principle of
issues being dealt with at the lowest possible level and allowing for
escalation when a potential crisis may emerge out of an event or situation.
The Framework has a two-tiered team approach for dealing with events or
situations as follows:
- the Campus Response Teams - incident focused
- the Strategic Crisis Management Team - business continuity focused
A third team with an incident management focus, the International
Response Team, is responsible for dealing with matters affecting the
University's international strategies.
The Campus Response Teams, which focus on the prevention and management of
incidents, liaise with the Campus Advisory Groups who are responsible for
the general management of the Campus.
The Strategic Crisis Management Team (SCMT) was formed in 2003 and is the
group responsible for overseeing the University's preparedness to deal with
crises. In the event of a crisis, the SCMT's role is to focus on business
continuity.
The SCMT's membership is as follows:

Manuals and information
The University has developed a
Crisis Management Manual
which forms part of its Crisis Management Framework. The manual provides
the SCMT with a set of roles and responsibilities to enable them to better
manage potential crisis situations.
The Emergency Response Manual outlines procedures in the event of an
emergency, evacuation procedures and training and testing measures the
University undertakes to reduce the likelihood of crisis situations and to
minimise the extent of damage arising from such situations. The Emergency
Response Manual, together with further information about the management of
emergencies, is available at the
Facility Management Unit website.
