Disabled Parking
Parliament has expanded the eligibility for Disabled Persons’ Parking
Permits. Previously, Disabled Persons’ Parking Permits were only
available to those with a permanent physical impairment, one which
prevented the use of public transport and severely restricted speed of
movement. Changes in force since 28 May, 1998 have expanded eligibility
to include people who have a temporary physical disability, if the
disability results in the same physical conditions, that is, severely
restricted speed of movement and inability to use public transport, and
if the disability is unlikely to improve within six months. Disabled
Persons’ Parking Permits can be obtained through any
Registration and
Licensing Division of Transport SA
The University provides parking for disabled staff/students holding a Disabled Persons’ Permit from Transport SA but still require the display of a University permit. In order to obtain a University permit please complete a CS04 – Application for Parking Permit and produce proof of your Registration and Licensing Division Disabled Persons’ Parking Permit to Campus Services/Security (formerly Campus Services) office on your home campus. Permits will not be issued if all information is not complete or provided. In addition City East and City West staff will need to advise if they have a current Cardax access card so that access to the relevant University car park can be issued. Staff applying for City East or City West permit for the first time and who do not have a Cardax card will also need to complete the following form: CS33-Electronic Security Building Access Application Form (PDF 24.5Kb, download Adobe Acrobat here).
Staff
As part of the University’s commitment to supporting staff with disabilities, in 2007 a process has been implemented whereby staff holding a Transport SA Disabled Persons’ Permit who apply for a UniSA permit will be referred to the Consultant HR Services (Equity and Diversity) who will make contact within next two weeks to discuss parking requirements in relation to your disability. This process is to ensure that staff with disabilities can be supported in the most appropriate and equitable way. Discussions will be confidential and aimed at seeking effective options to support staff who require alternative car parking arrangements.
Students
A Student Disabled Unreserved Permit issued will entitle the permit holder to park in any Disabled or Unreserved area on their home campus.
Temporary Physical Impairment
Requests for 'Temporary Physical Impairment' permits should be lodged with your local Campus Services/Security staff with proof of the short term injury, usually a medical certificate detailing the injury and period for which the Temporary Disabled Permit will be required. The University policy on Car Parking (C10.2) states that disabled persons’ parking is free and the issue of ‘Temporary Physical Impairment’ permit is on the same basis. Temporary Disabled Permits will only be issued for a period of no longer than 3 months. Staff with a long term disability must apply for a Disabled Persons’ Parking Permits through any Registration and Licensing Division of Transport SA.
If you have any questions regarding Disabled parking please contact your local Campus Services/Security (formerly Campus Services) office.
PLEASE NOTE: Both the University Parking Permit and the Registration and Licensing Division Disabled Persons’ Parking Permit must be clearly displayed at all times when you are parked on University grounds.
