Award of Merit - New Buildings

The Mawson Centre
by Russell & Yelland Architects / Guida Moseley Brown Architects, in association

MARSON CENTRE

The Mawson Centre accommodates a broad range of University and community functions, including: 255 seat theatre, 24/7 computer barn, University tutorial, case study and breakout rooms, shared community (City of Salisbury and Mawson Lakes School) library, administrative and information centre for the Mawson Lakes Education Service, administrative facilities for the UniSA Divisional Office enclave and various exhibition spaces. The varied scope of shared functions, use patterns and

the diverse nature of the users has led to a building of overlapping uses and considerable flexibility. The building form was governed by the need to offer a “civic presence” to the north, south and west, with strong connections to the UniSA Garth Boomer Building directly to the east. Although not a large building, The Mawson Centre had to be designed to convey the civic and community nature of its functions and sympathetically contrast with the shopping precinct to the west.
