First Year
Engineering Learning Hub project
The recently completed First Year Engineering
Learning Hub in Building A at Mawson Lakes Campus is an innovative retrofit of
the former Isobar space. This project grew from a need to provide a new type of
experiential learning environment that meets the evolving needs associated with
the fundamental pedagogy changes in First Year Engineering at UniSA. The result
is a new type of experiential learning environment that will influence the
direction of future teaching and learning environments locally, nationally and
internationally.
Through clever spatial design, the new facility offers flexibility from open studio environments for project based learning to intimate spaces for small group interaction and learning and zones for individual study. The Learning Hub offers a number of zones that can expand or contract via sliding walls to lockdown sound attenuated areas for serious discussion. The holistic nature of this unique design provides areas for unwinding, relaxation, social interaction, games and display concepts. Incorporating leading edge technology the range of spaces provides a spectrum of opportunities and stimulus to assist students in their learning endeavours. Students will thrive in this new and exciting environment at the commencement of their Engineering journey.
