UniSA Compliance with Enhanced Level 3 Water Restrictions.
- Enhanced Level 3 Water Restrictions are applicable to UniSA and all of it’s metropolitan Campus locations. UniSA is classified by SA Water under the restrictions relating to Sports Grounds and Recreational Facilities which are restricted to the following guidelines.
SPORTS GROUNDS AND RECREATIONAL FACILITIES
- Hand-held hoses fitted with a trigger nozzle may
be used on any day but only before 8am or after 8pm.
Watering cans and buckets may be used at any time. - Sprinkler systems may only be used once a week between the hours of 8pm and 8am. The day of the week and time of operation for each of the sprinkler stations is to be determined in conjunction with SA Water and subject to a permit.
- UniSA grounds continue to work in conjunction with SA Water to reduce the amount of water used on Campus and have implemented campus specific watering schedules in line with SA Water’s restrictions. This schedule is monitored by SA Water to ensure that the compliance with These restrictions is adhered to which inturn ensures UniSA’s Water Restriction Permit remains valid throughout the water restriction period.

South Australia is the driest state in the driest country on the planet. As an educational institution in such an environment it is our priority to be a leader in water conservation.
Water reduction is a major challenge for UniSA.
As our student numbers have increased so has our water consumption.
The university's consumption as at the end of Q3 2006 was (148,666 kl
vs 158,693 kl in
2005).
Some of the ways we are
currently working to reduce consumption are:
- gradually replacing single flush toilets with the dual flush system
- reducing our grounds watering cycles (especially at Mawson Lakes)
- the use of grey water at Mawson Lakes
The University also supports research and development as part of its leadership role in water conservation. Connect to the following sites for more detail:
- Environmental Management short courses http://business.unisa.edu.au/intbusiness/Shortcourses/emsc.asp
- SA Water Centre for Water Science and Systems http://www.unisa.edu.au/water/default.asp
The University’s water plan provides a comprehensive strategy for reducing mains water use, utilising grey water and storm water, and implementing efficient water management practices.
Usage of water reduced by 13.6% over the last six years as shown in the graph above.
