Polystyrene

Polystyrene is used for a number of purposes at UniSA.  The procedure for recycling these materials is as follows:
  1. If you are expecting a shipment of computers, intend to clean out an area or have a pile of polystyrene to be recycled, write an email to your local Campus Services Coordinator (CSC) and give them an approximate date for the delivery, clean out, etc.  Small pieces or odds and ends of polystyrene can be left beside the 240L paper recycling bins for pick up by the cleaners.

  2. When advising the CSCs of a delivery, clean out, etc., remember to include the room number, and an approximate volume of the material.  Advising the CSCs ahead of time will allow them to have extra bins ready when you are.

  3. The cleaning staff and Site services will work together to remove the material.

  4. All polystyrene will be placed in dedicated polystyrene bins.

  5. If you have a large amount of polystyrene that you need to get rid of in a hurry, you can place a work order via the MP2 (Online CSR) system to have it removed.

The Campus Service Coordinators are as follows:

Ian Bastable, City West ian.bastable@unisa.edu.au  , David Applebee CityEast  david.applebee@unisa.edu.au, Justin Faggotter Mawson Lakes justin.faggotter@unisa.edu.au and Gordon Todd at Magill gordon.todd@unisa.edu.au

Disposal of Toner cartridges

If you do not have a facility for toner cartridge recycling e.g. you do not return it to your supplier or do not return it for a refund/ rebate, you may leave your toner cartridge (preferably in its original box) by your nearest waste bin for recycling.  The cleaners will pick up the used cartridges whilst on their rounds.  Please ensure that you do not leave full cartridges near your waste bins!
