Energy consumption at the end of Q4 2006 (24,460,000kw/h) shows a slight increase from the 2005 Q3 consumption total of 22,920,000kw/h
This increase in
consumption is to be expected
when a number of factors are taken into consideration,
the principal ones being
the Blueprint
construction projects, the International Space University,
increased computer facilities, and the move to a 24 x 7 service.
Although the ISU is finished, as is Blueprint, there will continue to be an increase
in computer
facilities across the university and increasing hours of service.
Reducing energy consumption will remain a challenge for UniSA.

2000 - 2006 COMPARISON
Cost imperatives as well as a desire to reduce the University’s carbon
dioxide emissions were the catalyst for various initiatives that have
resulted in the University’s usage of electricity and gas reducing by
3.0% and 23.1% respectively over the last seven years, as illustrated in
the following graphs.
Electricity usage increased in 2006 compared to 2005 due to a warmer
start to the year than normal; a very cold autumn and early winter; the
acquisition of 160 Currie St (an additional 3,000 m2 of floor space);
and an additional 450 computers being brought on line across all
campuses for student use. The Facilities Management Unit is introducing
new initiatives in 2007 to bring electricity usage below 2006 levels.
