About the Units
- The notebooks and projectors have been selected by ISTS from a
large range of options demonstrated by three major suppliers. They are
considered to be of a very high quality and represent state of the art
technology at time of purchase.
- Each Notebook/Projector combination is a lightweight unit and has
been supplied and packaged in a special carry case (with wheels)
enabling very simple transfer by the user between Security (FM
Assist/Campus Services) and
the relevant lecture/tutorial room.
- Each unit has been set up by ISTS with basic operating system,
MS Office and a Web Browser. They are configured to work on their
home campus only
Purpose of Units
- These units are supplied to assist in the delivery of University
programs.
- They are not provided for the preparation of material. This
process should continue to be done via existing desktop facilities.
- Delivery will be via use of prepared material on disc or via
access to internet/intranet facilities providing a networked room is
selected for the presentation.

Bookings
- The units must be booked via the FM Assist (Campus Services) office on each
campus and bookings will be received on a first come first served
basis
- To enable fair and equitable access to the units semester long
bookings will not be accepted (this requirement is necessary in the
first instance and will be reviewed as the extent of overall demand is
determined)
- Consecutive weekly bookings will only be accepted for a maximum of
three weeks.
- Units should be booked for collection no more than 30 minutes
prior to actual time of use.
- Units can not be booked out overnight.
- Bookings will not, at this point, be accepted from external
hirers.
- The equipment cannot be booked directly by students. If student
use is deemed necessary the booking must be made via the relevant
member of academic staff who assumes responsibility for the conditions
of use of the equipment for that booking.
- FM Assist (Campus Services) must allow a period of one hour between bookings
to ensure that the equipment is in a fully functional state for the
subsequent booking.
- Basic instructions relating to the connection and operation of the
actual equipment will be provided at the time of collection to first
time users.
- For bookings after 6.00pm on weekdays or on weekends the equipment
is to be collected and returned to FM Assist (Campus Services) via contact with
their staff.

User Responsibilities
- The user is responsible for the collection, transfer and return of
the equipment.
- The equipment must be returned to FM Assist (Campus Services/Security) immediately after
use.
- It is the user's responsibility to ensure they know how to use
this equipment. If they do not they should seek assistance from their
respective school/divisional/unit IT support staff in the same way
they would seek assistance for desktop use
- The user must ensure that all equipment components are returned to
FM Assist (Campus Services/Security) and that advice is provided at time of return of any
operational problems experienced.
- Where a network connection is required for the delivery it is the
user's responsibility to ensure the room they have booked has network
access. A list of networked rooms is provided at
http://www.unisa.edu.au/ists/teachres/networkpoints/default.asp (Updated by ISTS)
As with any form of equipment breakdown is a possibility and users
should have regard to contingency planning.
Support Services
- FM Assist (Campus Services/Security) will ensure that at the point of lending the
equipment is complete in terms of components and that its basic
functions are operating as required. FM Assist (Campus Services/Security) staff will not be
able to provide advice beyond the physical operations of the units.
- IT Helpdesk will provide support in the event
of a reported problem to the notebook which cannot be corrected by a
simple system re-build. In this instance the fault will be recorded by IT Help Desk and the unit will be unavailable
until such time as the necessary repairs can be arranged by ISTS.
- In the initial stages of the use of this equipment IT Helpdesk
will provide as much assistance, training and support to staff as
possible. However School/divisional/unit IT support staff and general
training mechanisms will be the source of support to staff in relation
to actual use of this equipment for teaching purposes. eg. use of
PowerPoint, locating files held on servers etc.
Please Note:
Staff who require assistance to collect, transport and/or set up the
equipment because of disabilities or some other restriction should
negotiate this accommodation with their local IT Support person, HR
Coordinator or Head of School. If you have any questions about this
accommodation please contact your local HR Coordinator or Consultant HR
Services (Disability) on 21777.
