General Study choices in the LBPM program
Primary and Middle students are required by their program to undertake 8 general studies courses. General studies courses prepare students to teach two learning areas as a teacher in year 8 and 9 and/or to take up the role of a curriculum leader in a Primary School. Learning areas align with subject areas taught in schools e.g.: Society and Environment, English, Mathematics, The Arts (Visual and Performing), Science, Technology (including Design and Technology, IT, Home Economics), Languages, Health and PE. There are some cross-curricular areas that may also be taken including Teacher Librarian, Teaching English as a Second Language, Lutheran studies or Catholic studies.

There are two ways students can make up these 8 courses:

1. Students can do 4 courses in one learning area (eg. Maths) and 4 in another (eg. PE)
OR
2. Students can do 5 courses in one learning area (e.g. Maths) and 3 in another (TESOL or Catholic Studies)
We know that choosing the general studies sequences in the Primary and Middle program can be complex for new students. The following word documents describe the appropriate patterns of enrolment for a general studies sequence. If you need any clarification please contact the program administrator.
