Arts and Culture
Research Group

Members of the Arts and Culture Research Group conduct research into the arts and arts learning and explore the roles and values that the arts and other forms of cultural expression play in the lives of individuals, communities, and societies in Australia and in other parts of the world, in formal and informal educational settings, and in varied socio-cultural contexts. The arts include the expressive arts, music, dance, drama, visual culture, art and design, digital arts, religious art and artefacts, community arts and arts in public places.

The aims of the group are: to raise the visibility of and advocate for the arts and arts education; to encourage practitioner research in arts education; to promote arts practice as research; to promote cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural learning in the arts; to advance understanding of the diversity of forms and functions of the arts in human cultures; and to study and develop effective arts learning for children and adults in schools, museums, art galleries, theatres, and other social and cultural settings.
